In the first week of October, I went for a day hike up Hopkins Mountain in New York’s Adirondack range. I was going along with two other guys who I’ve hiked with before, and we’d also made a loose plan to take the trail from Hopkins’ peak over to nearby Spread Eagle Mountain.
