Hopkins & Spread Eagle Mountains

In the first week of October, I went for a day hike up Hopkins Mountain in New York’s Adirondack range. I was going along with two other guys who I’ve hiked with before, and we’d also made a loose plan to take the trail from Hopkins’ peak over to nearby Spread Eagle Mountain.

Trail Info
Distance: 7.2 miles (out & back)
Estimated Hrs.: 4 hrs. (non-winter)
Avg. Moving Speed: 2 mi/h
Elevation Gain: (unknown)
Peak Elevation: 3,821 ft.
Difficulty: Moderate-to-Difficult

I really enjoyed this hike and certainly recommend it. Neither peak is among the famed 46 High Peaks of the Adirondack range, but both mountains offer excellent views over Johns Brook Valley. Hopkins offers a wide, sweeping view from an expansive rock-faced summit, while Spread Eagle provides a more rugged viewpoint.
